BIOGRAPHY
Gregg Henry studied at the University of Washington in Seattle before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career. In 1976, he found his first role in the soap opera The Heirs , a sequel to The Rich and the Poor with Nick Nolte . Two years later, he played the title character in the prison film Purgatory alongside the massive George Kennedy . He continued with three TV films, then starred in the slasher Survival (also with Kennedy in the cast!) where campers face a dangerous maniac.
The young man then obtained a small role in Scarface by Brian De Palma . A filmmaker who made him appear in five of his following films: Body Double (1984), Outrages (1989), The Spirit of Cain (1992), Femme Fatale (2002) and The Black Dahlia (2006).
In the 1980s and 1990s, Gregg Henry favored the small screen and appeared in numerous TV films and series. At the same time, we see him in a solid supporting role (with a certain regularity in playing unlikable characters…) in the films The Patriot , Another World , They Called Me Steven , Star Trek: Insurrection , The Truth at All Costs or again Payback . In the latter, he plays a vile gangster with the bad idea of betraying and leaving his colleague Mel Gibson for dead .
In the 2000s, Gregg Henry found more substantial characters in series. We can thus remember his performances in Eyes , Gilmore Girls and The Riches . In Hung , he plays Mike Hunt, Thomas Jane ‘s anxious assistant coach . On the cinema side, James Gunn offered him a role in the original horror film Horribilis in 2006. The director called on the actor again a few years later to play the hero’s grandfather in Guardians of the Galaxy and its sequel .
Still active in TV films, Gregg Henry slipped into the shoes, in 2005, of the famous serial killer Dennis Rader nicknamed BTK (Blind-Torture-Kill, which means Bind-Torture-Kill…) in The Hunt for the BTK Killer . A praised performance.
In the 2010s, Gregg Henry further accelerated his filming pace and found even bigger roles in very popular series, such as The Killing , Following , Chicago Med , Hell on Wheels , Scandal and Hit and Run . Having almost abandoned cinema, we still see him briefly as Matt Damon ‘s father for a short flashback scene in Jason Bourne in 2016 (he thus reunites with Paul Greengrass after Vol 93 ).
Alongside his most prolific career in front of the cameras, Gregg Henry is a singer, composer and piano player who has recorded several albums. Furthermore, the Lakewood native is also a recognized theater actor and playwright.
