BIOGRAPHY
Enriqueta “Queta” Lavat is a renowned and legendary actress from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema, born on February 23, 1929, in Mexico City. She spent her childhood in the city, where, from a young age, she took ballet classes at the Shirley Academy. After winning a contest that looked for new and young acting talents, she would set foot on a film set at the age of 15.
Encouraged by a close friend, actress María Elena Marqués, Queta would make her film debut, in a small role, in the film Las colegialas (1946), and then participate in films such as Ángel o demonio (1947), Carita de cielo (1947) . ), The Bride of the Sea (1948), Commissioner on Duty (1949), School for Married Women (1949), among others.
Queta was a fundamental part of Golden cinema in Mexico, with an extensive career between the 50s and 60s, in addition to working with one of the icons of Mexican cinema, the actor and musician Jorge Negrete, in five films: Camino a Sacramento ( 1945 ), I have to eat that prickly pear (1945), A rooster in someone else’s corral (1952), Two types of care (1953), where he also appeared with Pedro Infante and Tal para qué (1953). In the 1950s, the actress would also appear in films such as The Right to Be Born (1952), Lullaby (1953), The Thief (1954) and Spring in the Heart (1956).
With a career spanning 160 films, Queta is also a fundamental figure on television, appearing in just over 40 novels, including Encrucijada (1970), Leona Vicario (1982), Herencia Damn (1986), Poor Miss Limantour (1987), Wild Heart (1993), Alondra (1995), Rosalinda (1999), The Force of Destiny (2011), among several others.
Queta was recognized at the Ariel Awards in 2018 for her career and legacy.
